FRONTIER INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION
is located in Lyons, Oregon approximately 50 miles south of Portland in the
beautiful Willamette Valley and in the heart of farm country.
Frontier built it's first Windrow Turner in 1988 when a need arose to compost
large amounts of straw. The previous method of disposing of straw was to burn
it, however the State of Oregon banned this method over a 5 year period, so
alternatives were needed. At that time there were no windrow turners capable
of turning windrows of either loose or baled straw. Frontier developed several
patents relating to the mechanical handling of compost. This included the mixing,
homogenizing and aeration of organic material and soils utilizing a unique drum
and paddle design that creates a high volume of airflow to provide oxygen and
purge CO2 from the material. A large amount of fresh air remains in the discharge
pile because the rear opening of the machine is the same width as the front.
This design also causes the best mixture of the material and this is something
no other turner manufacturer has been able to accomplish. Frontier spent the
next two years "contract turning" various organic materials for several farmers
and dairies in the Willamette Valley. In 1992 Frontier was asked to build their
windrow turner commercially to satisfy a world wide market. It was then that
Frontier built it's first commercial windrow turner and with features such as
increased airflow, portability, and strength it soon became the industry leader.
